Learn how to monitor your FMLA and/or parental leave hours.

This article applies to benefited leave-eligible employees who have an open leave case.

Understanding Leave Balances

Leave balances in PioneerTime can be difficult to understand without the fundamental understanding that FMLA is not paid leave. FMLA leave is job protection. In most situations, you are paid during absences related to FMLA, but the pay comes from a variety of sources based on the reason for your FMLA.

Potential pay sources include:

  • Your existing vacation balance

  • Your existing sick balance

  • Short-Term Disability Insurance

  • Long Term Disability Insurance

  • Parental Leave

The exact source(s) of your pay can also vary based on how long you are absent.

To monitor your FMLA and/or parental leave hours:

1. Start by viewing your leave balances

2. FMLA Leave Codes:

  • LV-FMLA- This tracks the total number of hours you have remaining in your FMLA leave case. Remember that this is unpaid job protection- not paid leave.

  • LV-FMLAMIL- This tracks the total number of hours you have remaining in your FMLA Military Family leave case.

  • LV-PARENTAL- This tracks the total number of hours you have remaining in your Parental leave case. This is the bank from which you will be paid during your Parental Leave.
